Riverbend to Enhance Ag Solutions with New Fertilizer Plant
July 30, 2024

Riverbend Co-op has officially broken ground on a multi-million-dollar capital investment in its Ag Solutions operation. The construction of a state-of-the-art Fertilizer Plant at its Broderick site marks the largest capital investment in the division since the acquisition. This significant investment will enhance Riverbend’s capacity to meet the growing demands of local producers.

“With the original purchase of the GDT operation, our Board signaled its commitment to the future of the agriculture industry in Central Saskatchewan,” Riverbend General Manager Greg Sarvis shared. “With the new Broderick Terminal, our current Board is extending that commitment to ensure Riverbend Ag Solutions can meet the projected growing needs that the Lake Diefenbaker irrigation improvement project is expected to bring to the area.”

The new Fertilizer Plant will significantly reduce load-in, unload, and blending times, thereby improving access to material for our producer partners. It will also enhance Riverbend Ag Solutions' offerings by providing more detailed micronutrient blends and customized formulas tailored to meet specific growing needs more effectively.

“We’re excited that we’ll soon be able to add dry micronutrient, impregnated and blend specialty fertilizer products with the latest technologies in fertilizer blending plants,” Ag Solutions Division Manager Ryan Erickson said. “The new plant will allow us to better customize our producers' blends to their very specific nutritional needs. The precision that we’ll benefit from will reduce waste and environmental impact, while further improving plant growth.”

When paired with support from Federated Co-operatives’ Hanley Fertilizer terminal, the Broderick Plant will allow Riverbend Ag Solutions to ensure central Saskatchewan producers don’t experience any dry fertilizer logistics problems in future growing seasons.

“The plant represents significant added value to our partners, and our owners,” Sarvis added. “We’re incredibly excited for the future it represents for the area and our co-operative.”

Completion of the Broderick Plant is targeted before winter 2024.
